All I Do, I Can Still Feel You

Tomorrow I’m going to see Trent Reznor. I simply can’t wait. And it shows in today’s improvisation, based heavily on his “Underneath It All”. Sorry it’s so imprecise, it’s the excitement.

Scene 34

Inspired by the movie “33 Scenes From Life”. The film was so packed with negative events I just had to add a more positive continuation.

PS: Abraham’s Bells theme quote unintentional. It unveiled for me when listening to the final mix.

Planning

Eerie ringing in my ears. And the thoughts, too loud. Need the silence.

To Go Straight

After over a week of silence, improvisations are back. Just like they sung, “the times, they are a-changing”. And indeed, some great stuff is ahead, stay tuned.

As for the improvisation itself, today’s piece is quite technical, and at the same time, a breath of fresh air. Try and listen.

Just Ember (Poison for a Fairy)

Today’s improvisation is based on Steven Wilson's "Veneno Para Las Hadas" from his latest solo album “Insurgentes”. I participate in a remix competition for the track “Abandoner”. You can vote for my entry.

Something in the Pocket

The first three days of May were public holidays in Poland. Hence, no improvisations were published. This piece introduces the third month of the DailyImprov.net project.

I was looking for some unwanted files on my hard drive to make room for other stuff and, while at it, I found some very old music I did on tracker software many years ago. This improvisation is based on one of the tunes I composed back then.

Bodytrapped III

This is my long overdue response for Eric Barnhill’s versus. This is already the third piece in the series. This time I had real trouble coming up with a theme that is not repetitive yet recognisably chained to Eric song’s structure. In particular, I’m not happy with the rhythmic accuracy I managed to get (or rather - the lack of it).

But the longer I worked on different improvisations on the theme, the more I felt this would go nowhere, so in the end I kept this version. Imperfect but done.

Electric Fridays #7: On The Brink of a Breakdown

Today’s episode of Electric Fridays focuses on a couple of very sad stories that happen to my friends right now. Financial problems, severe health issues, relationship dramas... Strange coincidence, especially at this seemingly happy time of the year.

Improvisation recorded at 288 BPM, in 5/4.

The Empty Tomb

A calm theme, very technical in nature, though I’m not happy with the accuracy. Consider this just a sketch or a scrap, so to speak.

Bodytrapped II

This piece is the continuation of the improvisation challenge for Eric Barnhill in a series of versuses, mutual improvisations on a given theme. The game turns out to be very interesting and it was tough to prepare a worthy improvisation as a response for his piece. I hope the result is okay.

Update: Eric posted his response, well played indeed. Let’s see where I can go from here...

No Rest Until The Search Ends

Eh. I tried to speed up the process by recording straight to Logic Pro and then - as it crashed without me saving the work - I’ve got one more reason to use the on-board sequencer of the piano: it does not crash, ever.

Tried to recover the theme by doing endless takes since then. Somewhat succeeded but you’ll have to believe me if I say - the original was somewhat better.

Bodytrapped

This piece is the first challenge for Eric Barnhill in a planned series of versuses, mutual improvisations on a given theme. The rules we set are as follows:
- every improv and versus is a single take, improvised
- the versus is based on the original improv
- consecutive versuses are based on themselves

I hope this turns out interesting.

Wireless Everything

An etude for practising counting in 5/4. Not a particularly strong piece but still, it was quite a challenge to get it right without falling for 4/4 anywhere...

It seems the recording is a little distorted. Sorry for that, will tweak the settings for consecutive improvisations.

Comptine de la Fille Trahi

This improvisation, originally performed in 2007, is a collage of Yann Tiersen's Comptine D'un Autre Été: L'apres Midi, La Valse D'Amélie and some original ideas.
